Perth Daylight Saving Time 2008

October 6, 2008 | Filed Under Announcement | Leave a Comment

Perth Daylight Saving will start again this year on Sunday, 26 October 2008 effective from 0200. That is, 20 days from the time this entry is written. This means that Perth time will be +9 GMT instead of the current +8 GMT.

So before you sleep, forward your clocks an hour ahead so you won’t be late for work/school the next day.

This is an mandatory update for Googlers who have been searching for DST for Perth in 2008 and landed on my entry last year. Have a good day.

“Graffidiots”

This was what I saw in the train, on the way to IGA Perth Royal Show 2008 on Wednesday, I think it’s a pretty effective message that targets its appropriate audience, that is, the “graffidiots”.

IGA Perth Royal Show 2008

September 25, 2008 | Filed Under Announcement | 3 Comments

Perth Royal Show 2008 starts 27th September and ends on 4th October, with only two days to go before its opening day. Royal Shows in Australia are held annually in each state, with agricultural shows, exhibits, animals, rides, games, food, firework and not forgetting the showbags and fluffy big-ass stuffed toys.

Around 500,000 people shows up annually to Perth’s Royal Show. It is probably the most anticipated event in Perth all year round, especially for young people and families. This year’s main sponsor is none other than IGA, the local (supermarket) heroes, with the store name included in the show name itself, making it the IGA Perth Royal Show 2008.

This year’s Perth Royal Show is held at Claremont Showground, which has been the venue for the even some 100 years ago. To get to the show, the use of public transport is perhaps the easiest. Parking is scarce and should be avoided unless you don’t mind spending hours looking for a parking and walking to the venue. For transportation information, visit Transperth Perth Royal Show services page.

The show starts at 9am-9pm every day until 4th October. Entry fee is not inclusive of the games and showbags, and pre-purchased tickets are cheaper than tickets purchased during the shows. Go to Perth Royal Show 2008 ticket for more ticket pricing information. For a map of the show, view the Perth Royal Show Map in PDF.

I just hope that I won’t be camera-less when I go for the show :(

Test image taken at work Christmas party middle of this year.

Been a while since my last update. Regarding my D60, if everything goes well, it should be coming back soon after filing a claim with the insurance company. No, my camera was not insured.

Cheers and have a great week.

Welcome back to Perth, Ryan. See you tomorrow hopefully.

Edit: I noticed that my picture is slightly more saturated here when previewed offline compared to Firefox. I wonder why..

Ethiopia

September 16, 2008 | Filed Under Confessional, Gibberish, Work | Leave a Comment

“What is Ethiopia?”, I said today at work when a friend mentioned the word Ethiopia.

The next thing I know is that everyone at work started bursting out in laughter :/

I was the joke of the night :(

Photoshop - How Much is Too Much?

September 5, 2008 | Filed Under Photography, Portrait, Questions, Thoughts | 11 Comments

There is always this question of ethics amongst any type of work - be you a journalist, a banker, a lawyer, a doctor, a tele-marketer, or even a local janitor. From a photographer’s point of view, there is always this ethical question when it comes to post-processing the photos that has been meticulously framed - how much editing should be done before it is considered unethical/fake/cheating/misrepresented?

One may argue that a photographer is an artist - besides capturing/framing the moment, the photographer is also allowed to tamper his creation as he wishes.

Another may disagree with the statement above and claim that a photographer is a “scanner” - he/she should represent his subjects as accurately as possible, just like a scanner - any use of photo-editing software is considered unethical and the photographer should be prosecuted for the slight “misrepresentation” of the subject.

While the majority (I think) would probably be sitting somewhere in between the fence, post-processing of photos, to us, is quite acceptable, BUT, to a certain extent.

Now the question again is - how much is too much?

The following shot of the Red Bull lady in Murdoch Open Day 2008 was edited using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0.

This, is the original shot (NEF converted to JPG).

So, would this be considered unethical/fake/cheating/misrepresented?

Tell me what you think in the comments section below. Cheers!
