A spontaneous shot of a baby in a pram sleeping in Perth Royal Show 2008. Just look at how cute he is.
Picture taken with Canon Ixus 75.
Don’t you wish you can sleep like that too? I do

Photoshop - How Much is Too Much?
September 5, 2008 | Filed Under Photography, Portrait, Questions, Thoughts | 11 Comments
There is always this question of ethics amongst any type of work - be you a journalist, a banker, a lawyer, a doctor, a tele-marketer, or even a local janitor. From a photographer’s point of view, there is always this ethical question when it comes to post-processing the photos that has been meticulously framed - how much editing should be done before it is considered unethical/fake/cheating/misrepresented?
- Would the use of graduated filter in photoshop to make blue skies bluer considered unethical?
- Would the use of the clone/heal tool in photoshop to clone/heal out that unnecessary distraction/zits away considered unethical?
- Or even adjusting the brightness/contrast/exposure to make a certain shot “perfect”. Would that be considered unethical?
One may argue that a photographer is an artist - besides capturing/framing the moment, the photographer is also allowed to tamper his creation as he wishes.
Another may disagree with the statement above and claim that a photographer is a “scanner” - he/she should represent his subjects as accurately as possible, just like a scanner - any use of photo-editing software is considered unethical and the photographer should be prosecuted for the slight “misrepresentation” of the subject.
While the majority (I think) would probably be sitting somewhere in between the fence, post-processing of photos, to us, is quite acceptable, BUT, to a certain extent.
Now the question again is - how much is too much?
The following shot of the Red Bull lady in Murdoch Open Day 2008 was edited using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0.
This, is the original shot (NEF converted to JPG).
So, would this be considered unethical/fake/cheating/misrepresented?
Tell me what you think in the comments section below. Cheers!

Logitech Z-2300 2.1 Speakers
September 4, 2008 | Filed Under Confessional, Other, Photography, Review | 2 Comments
What can I say.. It was an impulse buy, I admit. Well, I just couldn’t help myself. L was a little upset at me for spending $160 instead of saving up to pay for my bills (sorry!). Nonetheless, I did not regret one bit with my purchase. I bought mine from PLE Computers.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the speakers to go for if you are not into the 5.1 channel speakers. Logitech Z-2300 is without a shred of doubt the BEST 2.1 speakers that I’ve ever seen (heard).
The reason I went for a 2.1 is because:
- My room is small-ish. A decent 5.1 (Z-5500) will be an overkill, in terms of price (2x as much) and power (2x as much). Actually, the Z-2300 that I have now really is a little overkill too, but still….
- There isn’t really much space in my room for the speakers, really.
Sound clarity, “thunderous” bass (which is not an understatement), distortion free, powerful, and not forgetting to mention the fact that it’s a decent looking set of speakers that will complement most desktop/laptop/video game consoles.
This, is the 2.1 speakers to have, easily surpassing el-cheapo 5.1 channel speakers any time, any day. Yes, I’m biased, so sue me.
Now, who would be interested in a pair of Logitech R-20?

Shihad at Murdoch University Open Day 2008
September 3, 2008 | Filed Under Event, Life in Uni, Photography | Leave a Comment
Shihad is an alternative rock band based in New Zealand. Its current band members comprise of Jon Toogood (vocals, guitars), Phil Knight (guitars, backing vocals), Karl Kippenberger (bass guitars, backing vocals) and Tom Larkin (drums, backing vocals, samplers). More of Shihad here.
I’ve not heard of Shihad prior to Murdoch University’s open day, but after a little Googling, it appears that Shihad has a decent fan base, mainly from NZ and Australia. Although I’m not particularly fond of this genre of music, I am still fascinated by Shihad’s energy and confidence. I enjoyed seeing how they work the crowd up to a great ending to their performance, too.
Murdoch University Open Day 2008 was held a couple of days ago and I dragged L with me since she had never been to one and we had nothing else planned on the day. Of course, I was also keen to take some photos of live bands since I’ve never done that before. Other bands include Myles Vincent (missed this one) and The Silents (another entry for this band).
I equipped myself with my Nikon D60, mainly with the 55-200mm VR and 18-55mm VR kit lens, accompanied with my SB-600 strobe for fill flash.
Anyway, on to the shots (which I spent a bit of time with post-processing today). Enjoy!
Have a lovely week
