This post is overdue by two weeks, but here are some shots from Australia Day 2010 taken at South Perth:

I wasn’t exactly camping at the right spot as I’ve seen much better shots from other photographers who knew where to be. Ah wells, there’s always a next year.

Have a great week ahead! =)

People Say…

Filed under: Announcement, General, Other, Photography, Portrait, Review — Tags: , , , , , , , , — Raymond Chan @ 9:05 pm

…time flies when you’re having fun.

I just realised today that it has been a month since my last update. Technically speaking, my last post was last year. I wouldn’t say I was having the time of my life, but when you no longer have uni assignments and exams to deal with, there’s always other things (eg. work) that bothers you. I have been taking it easy on the job-hunt. Heck, I haven’t even prepared my CV or resume to begin with.

So what have I actually done for the past month? Nothing much except for work and more work, really. Well, my niece, Sophie turned one month on 14th January. Here’s the cute little thing:

I have been a Nokia fanboy since I was 13. I still remember my first phone being a trusty Nokia 3210 (Google it if you’re too young to know the model), which had the best game ever (SNAKE!) during my schooling days. I would bring it to school and risk having it confiscated because it was against the school rules then (not sure about now). Later on I had the 3350, which introduced cooler ringtones and games. I had a 7250i when it first came out (one of the first phone with colour and polyphonic ring tones and camera!!) and then downgraded to a 8310 when my phone was robbed :(

The 8310 stayed with me for a year or so with me after I came to Perth, until I signed a contract for a N95, which was my phone for the past 2 years. I was deciding between the N97 and an iPhone 3GS, but finally couldn’t resist but to join the dark side – I got the iPhone.

Sad to say, I haven’t regretted the move from Nokia to Apple by the slightest bit. The UI is just too pretty and I love how it doesn’t lag at all, unlike Nokia’s line of “smart” N-series phones. Everything is right at my finger tips with the iPhone, and the app store is amazing, to say the least. Nokia has a lot of work to do to catch up in the game.

Happy Australia Day for all Aussies for tomorrow! =)

This post is long overdue, but just over a month ago, I was given the privilege to photograph Sandra’s precious Viola. Here are some of my favourites out of the 34 that I ended up fairly satisfied with:

Targa West 2009 Pics

Some photos from Targa West 2009 at Toodyay, about 90km from Perth.

There are a total of 1200 photos from Targa West 2009, of which I haven’t even seen all of it so far. But here are 24 shots which I think people want to see. There are a couple of Nissan GTRs, Porsche 911, Lotus Elise, and of course, an i30 SX CRDi (unfortunately all the i30 shots turned out unsatisfactory). It was my first attempt at panning photography, so 70/80 per cent of my shots turned out kinda unsatisfactory.

Some overexposed, out of focus, not composed properly, etc. Oh, and we were in the spectator zone, so there were no way to get a better spot than the spot we were standing at, so all shots came back with the same angle. I remember I crossed the tape that kept us in the area for like a minute and the “marshall” came and asked me to go back behind the tape.

More Hyundai i30 SX Photos

Filed under: General, Night, Other, Photography — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — Raymond Chan @ 2:00 am

Here’s more photos of (my Hyundai i30 SX) which I attempted to shoot tonight after cleaning and polishing her for around 4 hours today. However, I failed miserably despite driving 100kms around the city to hunt for a decent spot to take the photos. I left home at 10pm or so, so the lighting condition can be considered horrible since the moon wasn’t even in sight.

Although I’m now armed with a tripod, no equipment can ever replace natural light – but I tried.

To make the long story short, I came home empty-handed, and decided to take a few shots at a car park 100m away from home instead. Here are some photos I managed to salvage from the bunch of not up to par shots:

Here’s one extra shot from Friday, taken in uni:

Do note that these photos are not an accurate representation of Hyper Silver colour due to image post processing and extreme lighting conditions.

Have a good Sunday :)

Hyundai i30 Hyper Silver SX 2.0L Manual

My Hyundai i30 Hyper Silver SX 2.0L Manual has finally been picked up at 9am on 6th August 2009. I could not have been happier as it is the first time I’m buying myself a brand new car.

After picking her up which took about 40 minutes, I headed straight to uni as I had to get to a lecture at 11.30am. Since I had almost 1.5 hours to spare, I drove around campus to look for a spot to take some photos, but there wasn’t really a good spot unless I stop in the middle of the road or drive over the curb and park on some grass (but no, I don’t wanna do that on her first day out with me, lol).

Anyway, I finally found an okay place, so here’s some photos (do click to enlarge individually):

Very ashamed to be saying this, but I have stalled her like 8 times just today. I find that it’s such a smooth and quiet ride compared to my 1990 Nissan Pulsar and Supra, and the stick is still quite stiff, especially on the Reverse, 1st and 2nd gear. Or maybe I really do suck at driving manual? :/

Nevertheless, there were a couple of minor scratches that I noticed later on, but I think that can be fixed when I bring it in for its first service on 8th September. And about 3 air bubbles which are probably not even noticeable (about .5mm in diameter), still not sure if I should talk to the dealer about that.

All I can say now is that I LOVE the car. Best car I’ve owned!

L is Sick

Filed under: Announcement, Other, Photography, Rough Times — Tags: , , , , , — Raymond Chan @ 1:25 am

She has been ill since Friday. The doctor had advised her to remain at home for five days while her samples were sent to the health department to be checked for swine flu.

A couple of hours ago, after I finished work, she called me saying that she felt sick again. She was feeling fine earlier today before I went to work.

If I knew, I wouldn’t have left her side.

Please pray for her :( I’ll give you a virtual lolly if you do. Thank you!
