Poof!

Poof!

That was what happened when I typed an hour’s worth of online discussion for one of my online units and clicked the “Post” button. How do you think I felt? =)

Today, I went to the church with my D60 and the SB-400 Speedlight where the wedding will be taking place in April. I was taking some test shots to record some settings for the best shot, but was unsuccessful due to a couple of reasons:

and

I’ll have to try again next week or the week after.

If you have not read my previous entry, I was given a huge task come end of April to be the photographer for one of our family wedding. My brother had purchased one of the latest entry-level Nikon D60 dSLR for me, with Twin VR Lens (18-55mm & 55-200mm) and a Speedlight SB-400. It was my choice from the body kit to the lens to the flash. I reckon it is good enough for the wedding, with some practise and lots of getting used to.

Anyway, enough ramblings and here’s the Poof! picture I took in the church today.

Poof!

The Big Question

February 28, 2008 | Filed Under Life in Uni | 3 Comments

Waking up on time for work and uni is becoming such a hard thing lately, it is akin to an 89-year-old trying to get an erection. Thankfully, I was not late for work again today.

After work, I drove myself to the nearest Hungry Jacks for lunch (I’m broke), then to campus although there wasn’t any lecture/tutorial today. I finished up writing a couple of pages’ notes and happily drooled my saliva all over the study desk provided in the Reserves section for a couple of hours. It was refreshing.

Although I enjoyed every single bit of the nap (except for the drooling bit, which got onto my shorts), I was quite worried if the old man sitting opposite me would have taken into offense to my idiosyncracy. The big question that bugged me since I woke up is whether I did snore or not, but I didn’t have the guts to ask the old man about it. I reckon he would have clobbered me with his 5kg Mathematics reference book I had asked him that.

I am currently still in campus, waiting for the hands of the clock to hit 6pm, when I will be able to have an overnight loan of one of the media text books. I have 6 chapters to read and I certainly wouldn’t want to spend my time in the library all night to get the reading done. So much to read, so little time.

Have yourself a great week =)

First Day Back to University

February 18, 2008 | Filed Under Life in Uni | 2 Comments

My mobile phone alarm set off as per normal at 4.45am. The Way I Are by Timbaland was the song that disrupted my ever peaceful sleep as its volume ascended to a point I could not comprehend. Without hesitation, the snooze button was pressed to shut it up for another five minutes. The process went on from 4.45am to 5.20am. That is, seven times of pressing the snooze button and one time of pressing the stop button to shut it up for good.

Dragging my own feet from the cozy, air-conditioned room into the bathroom was not an easy feat, nor was the feeling of the warm water splashing onto my body, especially when I know that it is the first day back to uni and I would have spent the last three months’ worth of holiday doing nothing but working my ass off to pay bills. The only consolation was trying out the new shampoo that I had gotten from Spencer Village’s Chemist for a mere AUD2.45 the day before, which was reduced to clear but was reallly nothing to shout about.

With only thirty minutes left to get to work on time, I could not fully savour the congee with salted fish and omelette that my sister-in-law had prepared nor the extra black coffee that I had made to keep myself awake for the rest of the morning.

Rushing through the traffic in the morning to work is not an uncommon thing. With only less than twenty minutes to prevent facing the music of the supervisors and team leader, driving 90-100km/h on a 70 road on South St. is often the only choice.

At work, doing the mundane work every morning could hardly bring out the best in me. There would be times when I would pretend that I am in my fantasy world, where the job I do would be thought of as something that I really enjoy doing, when in actual fact I detest it with my whole heart. Often, the simplest way to pass time would be to talk to the colleague I work with, like the new guy from Italy today, Martino.

Leaving work at 10am, the rushing starts again, but this time, only to go to campus to attend my first lecture of the semester, Media Audiences and the Public at 10.30am. Although uni is located a mere 5 minutes from work, finding a decent parking space often take a longer time than to get to the place itself. With less than thirty minutes in my hand, all I could do was to grab myself a can of Coke and to have a change of top. The last thing to do would be to attend my first lecture late.

First day of uni always suck and it will continue to suck for the rest of the semester. Now that my large Mocha and Florentine cookie from Cafe Kadjininy are both happily swimming in my stomach, it is high time that I get home and catch up with my readings.

Have a great week.

Exam Panic. Sorta.

December 1, 2007 | Filed Under Life in Uni, Picture Fridays | 3 Comments

So I skipped my second week of “Picture Fridays”. I didn’t realise it initially because today had been a long long day for me. So I’ll just merge this week’s Picture Friday with a little update =) Do bear with me.

I had my first and last final exam today, if that makes sense to you. It was my Introduction to Public Relations paper, which was a two-hour paper. I got to campus on time, waited with probably a hundred other candidates outside the lecture theatre to get inside. Upon entering, I realised that something was amiss. It wasn’t the right location. I was lost with the IT students. I hurriedly trotted to the next lecture theatre, hoping that it was just the one next door, but it wasn’t there! So I had to run to the notice board to see the exact location, and realised that it was actually held in the gymnasium. To think I was so stupid, running amok around the campus from one end to another.

I finally got to the gymnasium and noticed that I was on time. Thank God for that. I thought I would have been late.

The paper caught me by surprise. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would have been. The task was to write two out of three questions based on a given text - business letter, a media release, or a short feature story. I did the first two as I reckoned they would be easier and shorter =P I don’t think I did very well for the media release, but I reckon the business letter was pretty good. I was one of the first few to get out of the gymnasium, so it only took me 1 hour and five minutes to finish the paper. I was.. exhilarated! Gladdened! Elated! Euphoric!

To top it all off, the weather today was just so, so, so “spring-y”. Just the way I like it =)

I was driving on the road after my exam, and I think I was caught speeding by the speed camera. I was doing 85-90 on a 80 zone. Everyone was driving so fast though. I wonder if I managed to elude the camera. If I didn’t, it would be the first time I actually get a fine. Gotta drive much much slower now. Be a good boy. Haha.

So I’ve written a lot today. This is quite unusual, but lately I’ve just been so busy with everything. Especially with my financial concerns. Still jobless, no news at all. This is seriously killing me slowly. I went to a local shopping mall this afternoon to apply for a job in one of the supermarkets. I wonder if I’ll get it this time. All I can do is wait until Monday.

Anyways, enough ranting. Here’s yesterday’s Picture Friday =)

Tripod

This was one of the few tripods that the university provide us with. Although it’s not exactly the best available in the market, I really love it with a passion. Night photography is not night photography without it.

It’s been almost one month now since I last held on to a DSLR. I miss taking shots of anything and everything. I feel naked without it, especially when I see those picture opportunities that do not come by easily. Like the clouds that was covering the Sun today, it was emitting rays of light around the clouds. So, so frameable. If only. Sigh.

Still, if you’ve waited all week for a picture of a tripod, I’m sorry to have disappointed you. But I think it’s still the most essential equipment in photography.

Have a GREAT weekend! I know I will =) Speaking of which, have you ever had any examination troubles like the one I got into today? Share with us.

Quick Update

November 6, 2007 | Filed Under Life in Uni | 1 Comment

Just a quick update to those who are wondering where in the world I have been.

I am currently struggling to get my photography portfolio, rationale (1000 words) and presentation done for tomorrow, all due at once. After getting them done, I hope to get the practice journal done as well, which is a 12-weeks worth of journals on my photography progress due on Friday.

Three days before freedom! I can smell it already.

Just one of the ten pictures for my final portfolio:

Final Portfolio 1

I hope to update tomorrow with another podcast, so till then, you guys enjoy your mid-week =)

My Workspace

October 26, 2007 | Filed Under Life in Uni | 8 Comments

I was working (last minute) on my assignment last night until about 4am when I fell asleep. Now that I am up again, I am experiencing writer’s block. I’ve never had the problem of not being able to keep to the minimum words, so this is my first (and hopefully my last) time.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Cute or not my wallpaper? :D

With 950 words and 250 words to go, I am simply out of idea. I wonder if I can just submit my feature story with so many words short?

For memory’s sake, I am currently writing a feature story about the recent murder of the Chinese girl in Perth.

Maybe I should have written something else - photography, or perhaps badminton? Too late now.
