Highlights of the Week
March 7, 2008 | Filed Under General | Leave a Comment
This week has got to be the week I slacked off the most since the year started. I’ll put some of the highlights of this week in key points:
- I had only worked for a day this since Monday (Monday was Labour Day in WA).
- I had only attended uni for a day (which is today).
- I MAY be owning a dSLR really soon (more on that another day).
- I will be attending my first family wedding come April (more on that another day).
- I will be getting my strung brand new racquet tonight in badminton (more on that another day).
- I am behind on my readings only after three weeks since this semester started (refer to point 2)
- I am going off for a job interview at 4.30pm today (will update on that soon, fingers crossed).
I’ve had an eventful week, good and bad. Hope yours was the same, if not better. Off to tutorial now.
Have a splendid weekend =)

The Good Samaritan
February 25, 2008 | Filed Under General | 1 Comment
I played the role of the Good Samaritan last night.
After a sending L home via the train last night, I got back to Murdoch Station where I parked my car. Upon reaching the station, I saw this Chinese kid who spoke no English and didn’t even know how to use the public telephone. He was stranded in Murdoch Station, so I lent him my phone for him to call his family. The family didn’t know how to get to the station.
I offered to send him home, but he refused. I continued on my way home. A couple of corners from my house, his father called. He told me he doesn’t know how to get to Murdoch Station, so once again, I offered to return to pick his son up. He said okay, so a big U-turn I made and picked him up at the station.
Such a polite kid he was, he thanked me again and again even after I dropped him off at his house in Willeton. Later in the night (around 11pm when I was fast asleep), his father called me, going, “eh! xie xie ni ah” (thank you) repeatedly.
My mummy would be proud of me. lol
ps. I didn’t even know how to get to Willeton until I called a couple of friends. Thanks to you two, I know how to get there.

Firefox AUS Connection Refused
January 9, 2008 | Filed Under General | 2 Comments
I got home after work today and got the shock of my life (an understatement) when my Firefox browser had problem showing websites. Initially, I thought that my wireless connection was the problem. However, I realised that my MSN was connected and I had no problems browsing using Internet Explorer.
I tried checking for updates from Tools in FF, and the check returned with “AUS Connection Refused”. That was when I started to panic because I cannot imagine going back old school to IE.
Using IE, I googled “Firefox AUS Connection Refused” for the solution and found a forum that suggests Firewall was the culprit of the problem.
With a few clicks on Norton and Windows Firewall Settings with a good reboot of my laptop, the problem was fixed. Now I can enjoy fast and secure Internet browsing once again! =)

Did You Know..
October 27, 2007 | Filed Under General | 2 Comments
..that Raymond Chan loves spring? No, I don’t mean the “metal elastic device that returns to its shape or position when pushed or pulled or pressed”. I mean the spring in the four seasons. He loves spring so much that he had decided to write up an entry dedicated to spring itself, in response to another blogger’s hatred towards the season.
Do you like spring?
..that I had recently read somewhere that if a person does not have enough sleep at night, the next day, the person will usually be more emotional, which is not good at all. Say, a person who did not get enough sleep can laugh at a joke which is told twice, too. Of course, if it’s viewed in a positive light, it is not that bad after all. But imagine yourself being hyper-sensitive to everything around you. You become vulnerable to being unhappy.
So please do sleep earlier people. You don’t want to end up like Raymond Chan
..that the moon was extremely large and round tonight at around 7pm. It seemed from my house that it was so near to Earth that I initially thought that the moon was some random huge planet that I discovered.
..that I had applied for a job as a croupier in Burswood Casino a few weeks ago (probably a month), and in the comments section, I said that I wouldn’t mind working in the restaurants as well. After so many weeks, I did not get any reply from them until today. I cannot show the email that I had received because it is against their policy, but we’re looking at Food & Beverage attendant role in Burswood. They had just requested for my resume, so if all goes all.. If all goes well.
Have a great weekend =)

Raymond Chan’s Special Tom Yum Fried Rice
October 27, 2007 | Filed Under General | 5 Comments
This is a non-halal entry, so this may offend certain religious practices.
Wakaka. This is my first recipe. Sort of, anyway. Today’s recipe is Raymond Chan’s Special Tom Yum Fried Rice (with Spiced Pork Cubes) ![]()
I like the names long. Makes it sound all the more delicious. hehe.
Lets look at our ingredients tonight
We have a can of Spiced Pork Cubes, an egg and a Tom Yum cube. The Pork Cubes isn’t a must, of course, but adding some meat (maybe chicken pieces) would enhance the flavour of the fried rice
Also, I would suggest using Tom Yum paste if you have it, but the cube one is good enough. Lets not forget the rice too. Overnight rice, please. Freshly cooked rice is too “wet” to be made fried rice.
If you haven’t noticed, I don’t have garlic in my list of ingredients, but if you’re a garlic lover, feel free to chop up some garlic for the taste.
Instructions:
- Heat pan/wok until it’s hot and add oil (just a teaspoon for pan, more for wok). I used a pan.
- Throw the rice into the pan/wok. Not throw literally, but spread the rice nicely. If you have chopped garlics ready, fry the garlics first before putting the rice into the wok.
- Crush the Tom Yum cube into the wok and spread evenly.
- After a while, maybe 30 seconds, spread the rice to the side so that there is a “hole” in the middle of the wok.
- Add some oil in the middle and crack the egg into the “hole”. Wait for the egg to cook.
- When cooked, cut it to pieces and mix them around with the rice.
- Add pepper/salt for flavour.
- Open the can of Pork Cubes or Chicken pieces and shove them into the wok
- Sliced chicken pieces cook very quickly. Canned pork cubes are cooked. heh
- Serve, and enjoy.
Was a little too oily though. Forgot that there are already oil in the canned pork cubes.

Of Fried Rice and a Very Sad Shoe

Who says Raymond Chan can’t cook? I present you today, Raymond Chan’s Special Sambal Belachan Fried Rice
Nice long name eh?
I was a little hungry last night, so I whipped up one of these about 2am :S Enough to feed a cow, but I managed to finish it, of course.
Let us do this one step at a time. Chan Raymond’s way.
- Using an overnight cooked rice, heat the rice with a little oil in the pan/wok.
- Put in a tablespoon (or your preferred amount) of sambal belachan into the wok and mix well.
- Separate the rice in the wok so that there’s an empty space to fry an egg in the middle.
- When egg is cooked, mix them together with the rice.
- Put a little salt and some pepper and perhaps some light soy sauce for taste.
- Finally, mix whatever vege/meat you have. In my case, I used a plate of leftover long beans with beef
- Serve, and enjoy.
So this is it about my Fried Rice.
Moving on.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a smiling very sad Yonex shoe.
Enough said.
I’m hungry. Raymond Chan’s Special Tom Yum Fried Rice, anyone? ![]()
