The Wheel of Perth – Part 2

UPDATE: I went to a BankWest branch earlier today with the registration papers hoping to get my cheque, only to be told that they do not have my records there because I did my application via the Internet/Phone, meaning everything is by mail!

I’m now waiting for the contract to arrive via snail mail, which will probably arrive Monday, then I’ll have to sign it, then courier it back. When they receive it THEN they’ll send me a cheque, by mail! I’ve already contacted the dealer and postponed the car pick up until next week. Unbelievable.

I’m having a sleepless night from the excitement of having a new car! My car is ready to be picked up tomorrow evening, after a few hiccups and all I can say to potential Hyundai new car buyers in Perth is to stay the hell away from John Hughes Hyundai unless you have no other options available. To date, my experience with them has not been a pleasant one    I will make sure I do my servicing elsewhere once I get my car tomorrow!

I was on a shopping spree (online) for some photographic accessories which I have been wanting to get for a while now but never got the chance to buy them. I ended up $50 poorer after buying:

  • a foldable flash reflector with a hole in the middle (to fit lens through). I’m not sure how it works to be honest but it looked like a decent buy for close portraits and outdoor macro (not that I do macros).
  • a 67mm UV filter (Massa branded, or should I say non-branded) for my Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. Finally a little protection for my lens :D
  • a Chinese rip-off version of the SC-28 TTL cable (which is the most expensive item in the list!). Need this one for off the camera flash where the D60 cannot act as a “commander” to trigger wireless flash
  • a dual lens cleaning pen. Can come in handy.

After surfing around, my next item to get is probably the Cactus V2/V4 transmitter, which will allow the flash to fire wirelessly from the transmitter/receiver. Then again I may not be needing them after all, since I have already bought the SC-28 which can extend up to 2.7m (apparently).

Anyway, here are more pictures from my last shoot at the Wheel of Perth (click to enlarge):

It took a great deal of effort and it was also freezing cold when I took these shots, hence some poorly framed shots and some were not really straight/even due to the surface and lack of time for me to compose the shot (and myself  ). Then again I’m happy with 10% of the shots and they’re the ones that made it here!

Well, time for me to take a nap because I need to go to the dealer first thing later to get the registration papers which should have been ready and posted to me earlier this week but the salesman said he will not receive it until this morning. I think that’s plain BS to cover his ass, but I won’t pursue it. After getting the papers from him, I would then go to the bank to show them the final document needed in order to get my cheque, then wait until 4pm to pick up my i30 SX. This tedious process could have been eliminated if he had the papers done and sent it to me earlier this week, where I can just fax the papers to the bank and receive my cheque in my mail.

I’m really hoping there will be no problems with the car or any more delays after this. I’ve waited one whole month for this!

Today..

Filed under: Confessional, General, Humour — Tags: , , , , , , , , — Raymond Chan @ 12:39 pm

.. I woke up to 4 degrees celsius and a text message. Boy, was it cold, especially when I’m used to sleeping without my shirt on.

My mum texted me to tell me to apply aloe vera/rose hip oil to my burn from the last couple of weeks. Shocked, I asked her how she knew about my burn. She replied “from your blog lo“. I’ve been trying to keep this blog as low-profile as I could (from my family anyway), but of course that isn’t easy when keywords such as “chanraymond” and “raymond chan” are plastered on Google’s front page (lol).

When asked how she knew about my blog existence, this was what she had to say:

Screenshot0002 Today..

My mum’s quite tech-savvy, no? Hehe. She Googles my name every now and then to check on me.

And I forgot about her birthday! :S But… that’s because I just woke up. But all’s good now after we sms-ed and talked on the phone for a bit :P

And.. Happy Birthday mum! :)

Quick Update

I just realised I haven’t updated for almost one full week! Haha. Here are some shots from last Sunday at the wedding reception:

Okay, fine. I know this isn’t a proper update, but it’s time for me to sleep. I have around 200 shots to edit from the wedding reception. Due to unforeseen circumstances I only shot the reception. Have a good weekend!

Car Shopping

Filed under: Announcement, Confessional, Photography — Tags: , , , , , , — Raymond Chan @ 1:26 am

I’ve been busy this past week, shopping. Car shopping, to be exact.

I am getting rid of my 1990 Toyota Supra for a new 2009 Hyundai i30 SX, manual. Yes, it’s two totally different car. One consumes fuel like water, the other uses the fuel to its full capacity. The Hyundai i30 is my money lifesaver. So why the i30, but not a Jazz, Yaris or Swift, which are all quite reputable in this class of cars? I don’t know why, but I do like the i30 a lot. My second and third choice was the Suzuki Swift (Limited Edition) and Toyota Yaris, which I went for the test drives earlier this week, but didn’t manage to come up with an agreeable deal with both dealers.

Frankly, I didn’t even test drive the i30! But as far as I was concerned, getting rid of my Supra was my main priority. I could no longer feed the moneybox any more after it showed signs of failing me. Not only the fuel consumption is extreme, the regulator needs replacing. The tyres are balding. The electronics are stuffed up. The central locking is playing up. Even the paint is starting to peel off. And worst of all, it’s starting to feel like a 20 year old car. Wait, it IS a 20 year old car! For the past week or so, I have had to knock the alternator/regulator with a steel rod almost every time before I drive the car to get the car battery charging while the car is running.

Anyway, this is how the i30 should look like when it arrives mid/end of this month:

Ray006-002 (Large)Both images shot with my mobile phone. Not bad ey?

I spotted this one a couple of days ago and mine should look exactly like this except for the colour. I had initially wanted to get this colour, but upon reaching for an agreement, I was told by the salesperson that Hyundai will be announcing a new set of colours for the next batch to replace the current ones. Mine will apparently come with a lighter shade of grey compared to the one above, to which the colour is not even seen anywhere. Apparently, there are still no brochures, nothing on the website or the WWW about the new Hyper Silver colour, which I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will like it!

Anyway, hopefully everything goes well and when I do get my new car, I’ll be sure to upload the images :) Have a good weekend!
