Overexposure

The Digital Photography Blog recently highlighted 15 Creative Uses of Overexposure, but being the critical me, I disagree with at least 1/2 of the 15 “creative” overexposed shots. Anyway, here’s my attempt on creative overexposure:

Top 5 Tips to Understanding Women

I don’t claim to be an expert in this field of understanding women, but I am going to provide 5 tips to understanding women:

1) Women do not usually mean what they say.

She says that she doesn’t want flowers and gifts for Valentine’s because it’s overrated, but deep inside she would want them too. Simply because she’s a woman.

What to do: Get her flower(s) for that special occasion or no occasion at all. Get her the teddy bear. Get her something for God’s sake.

Myth: She doesn’t mind you going out with your mates for tea/drinking every other day.

Fact: She does mind.

2) Women remember your words.

You said something you shouldn’t have said. She remembers it. You’re doomed.

What to do: Watch your words.

Myth: A little coaxing and pampering and she’ll forget about how fat you said she was the night before.

Fact: The coaxing/pampering is only a temporary fix. The words you said are permanently etched in her brain.

3) Women love being treated like a lady.

Open that door for her. Compliment her. Just be a gentleman.

What to do: If you don’t know what to do, put your head in the toilet bowl, flush repeatedly.

Myth: Some girls are the type that doesn’t require the “lady treatment”.

Fact: Whether you like it or not, it’s not that hard to show the person you love a little gentlemanly side of yours occasionally.

4) Women want that “I love you”.

Not every minute. Just at the right moments.

What to do: Eat your monitor if you don’t know what to do.

5) Women are all different.

Every woman is born different from each other – looks, personality, figure, etc.

What to do: Learn your woman.

My Revamped Workspace

Filed under: Confessional, Other, Photography, Thoughts — Tags: , , , , , , — Raymond Chan @ 10:02 pm

I was driving past OfficeWorks last Friday after renewing my passport when I casually asked L if she wanted to drop by the store to have a quick look before we head home. “Why not?”, she said. It proved to be one of my biggest mistakes this year when we had a temporary high of furniture shopping.

It started with a computer desk which L decided to get for my Valentine’s. Then, a bookshelf to go with it. This followed with a reclining chair which I later realised that I’d need a new chair mat to go with since I’m giving my old ones to my nephew.

Total damage to the wallet after a couple of hours:

$150 bookshelf
$180 chair
$120 chair mat
$200 computer desk (thanks for the desk, L)

After a lot of heavy lifting and a LOT of assembling with the help of my mate (Jay), my room now looks completely different.

Lo and behold, my brand new, revamped workspace.

Please ignore the messy, pink (and mismatched) bed-sheet and the brown towel on the new chair.

A neater shot.

All I need now is a pot of fake plant for the desk, a small bedside table, and a coat hanger (to hang my towels and jackets). I really should have gotten all the furniture from IKEA though (I think it’s cheaper and better there). Ah wells, maybe next time.

I’m officially broke.

ASUS 8800GT 512MB G92

I got myself a pre-owned ASUS 8800GT 512MB G92 graphics card two days ago. Having to drive about 90kms in total to get the card from the owner, I still think the price was worth every single dollar I spent. Although it’s not manufactured anymore, I think it’s ridiculous having to spend an extra hundred or so to get a slightly superior/newer 9800GT card which I would probably not utilise to its maximum potential with my Q6600 CPU. Even if I ended up paying the same amount of money to get the 9500GT, I think the performance of the ASUS 8800GT 512MB will be much superior. It is, afterall, a popular card amongst gamers. Do not be mistaken however, I’m no gamer.

However, I stuffed up my PC on the same night I got the graphics card. To cut the long story short, I encountered an error after uninstalling some applications two nights ago when I was installing the card, so I ended up NOT testing the card only until a couple of hours ago (which turned out that the card works brilliantly, FYI) after my bro managed to help me fix my PC. I almost resorted to reformat the whole PC, which I didn’t, obviously.

I tested the card briefly with the games I’ve been playing lately: Mirror’s Edge (16x AA), Devil May Cry 4 (maxed out), FIFA 09 (maxed out), Need For Speed: Undercover (4x AA) and Call of Duty 4 (maxed out) . All turned out perfect except for NFS Undercover which is rather surprising because the graphics is not exactly the best compared to the rest but still runs a little laggy. I suspect it’s the game’s fault because there are heaps of them out there with performance problems with the game.

Anyways, on to the pictures:

Even comes with a leather CD booklet and an original Company of Heroes game.

And so..

Couple at Freo Crossing

.. I rant.

The day that all men (and some women) loathe is just 10 days away. Valentine’s Day. Celebrated on the 14th of February every year, it is the only day when the florists can provide an excuse to quadruple their profit on a single day, the day when all restaurants have an overpriced “lover’s menu”, the day when some, if not all attached men struggle to find the “perfect” gift for their loved ones, possibly spending their hard-earned money to buy that overpriced stem/bouquet of rose(s) and teddy bears only to please their partner(s) and possibly winning their hearts.

I bought L a Logitech Cordless Wave Pro from CatchoftheDay.com earlier today which will be delivered by Valentine’s (I hope), which may well put me into the Doghouse (click). Then again, she has been wanting a keyboard + mouse bundle to replace hers since last year. Of course, I should probably get something else for her to go with that (ideas?) :/ Flowers are so overpriced (but do I really have a choice?). I hate bloody Valentine’s! Why can’t we just be extra nice and lovey dovey every day of the year instead of dedicating a single day to increase all the prices of goods and impress our loved ones?

I sure as hell hope L doesn’t see this post anytime soon :/

Have a good Valentine’s this year, guys and girls.
