The Big Question

February 28, 2008 | Filed Under Life in Uni | 3 Comments

Waking up on time for work and uni is becoming such a hard thing lately, it is akin to an 89-year-old trying to get an erection. Thankfully, I was not late for work again today.

After work, I drove myself to the nearest Hungry Jacks for lunch (I’m broke), then to campus although there wasn’t any lecture/tutorial today. I finished up writing a couple of pages’ notes and happily drooled my saliva all over the study desk provided in the Reserves section for a couple of hours. It was refreshing.

Although I enjoyed every single bit of the nap (except for the drooling bit, which got onto my shorts), I was quite worried if the old man sitting opposite me would have taken into offense to my idiosyncracy. The big question that bugged me since I woke up is whether I did snore or not, but I didn’t have the guts to ask the old man about it. I reckon he would have clobbered me with his 5kg Mathematics reference book I had asked him that.

I am currently still in campus, waiting for the hands of the clock to hit 6pm, when I will be able to have an overnight loan of one of the media text books. I have 6 chapters to read and I certainly wouldn’t want to spend my time in the library all night to get the reading done. So much to read, so little time.

Have yourself a great week =)

Daily Routine at Work

February 27, 2008 | Filed Under Humour | 2 Comments

I am sure many of you have your own habits at work and I for one have one too. Some known habits include:

Often, I go to work feeling tired and bored early in the morning, but after this “routine” of mine, I would feel refreshed almost instantaneously and my energy level would have shot up to the fullest.

What other routine can I be referring to, other than taking a nice load of crap (ie. defecating, ca-caing, shitting, pang sai, passing motion, etc.) early in the morning?

The feeling of dumping all the toxic waste from the night before is indescribable. A colleague of mine even suggested that getting yourself high on drugs would come close to the feeling that it generate, but I beg to differ.

What about your daily work routine?

On another note, I took this typing test which I found from Kee Yit’s blog.

Give it a try, it’s fun. My results are below.

The Good Samaritan

February 25, 2008 | Filed Under General | 1 Comment

I played the role of the Good Samaritan last night.

After a sending L home via the train last night, I got back to Murdoch Station where I parked my car. Upon reaching the station, I saw this Chinese kid who spoke no English and didn’t even know how to use the public telephone. He was stranded in Murdoch Station, so I lent him my phone for him to call his family. The family didn’t know how to get to the station.

I offered to send him home, but he refused. I continued on my way home. A couple of corners from my house, his father called. He told me he doesn’t know how to get to Murdoch Station, so once again, I offered to return to pick his son up. He said okay, so a big U-turn I made and picked him up at the station.

Such a polite kid he was, he thanked me again and again even after I dropped him off at his house in Willeton. Later in the night (around 11pm when I was fast asleep), his father called me, going, “eh! xie xie ni ah” (thank you) repeatedly.

My mummy would be proud of me. lol

ps. I didn’t even know how to get to Willeton until I called a couple of friends. Thanks to you two, I know how to get there.

Superbad Review

I had finally managed to catch Superbad with L about a month or so ago after hearing all the hoo-hahs about the movie. Because Superbad managed to live up to its name, it was simply Superbad.

Superbad made me feel “Superbad” from the beginning to the end because L’s younger brother kept wanting to watch the movie with us, but I didn’t let him (he is eight). It was a huge mistake to rent this movie. Being one of the countless college comedy flicks out there, Superbad was said to be the best movie since American Pie, but I beg dear Lord’s mercy to differ.

The movie is filled with underaged teens with limited vocabulary, sex, alcohol, drugs, (lame) jokes, and more limited vocabulary (limited to pretty much “Fuck” from beginning of the movie).

The plot is painfully weak. It is revolved around two (underage) teens who are best friends, desperately trying to buy alcohol to a party, hoping that that will help them to “unvirginise” them (lose their virginity) before they get into college.

The movie was one of the worst movies I’ve watched in a long, long time. The absurdity is that Superbad managed to get into IMDB’s top 250 movies of all time for a period of time. Thankfully, they were kicked out of their spot after their moment of glory.

This movie is definitely not for kids and is for Matured Audiences (MA) only. Unless you have two hours of your life to spare, don’t watch this movie. I would be more than happy to give this movie 3/10 for its Liquor Store scene.

Tips For Satisfying and Fun Blogging

February 19, 2008 | Filed Under Thoughts | 4 Comments

Because I had been absent from work today, I slept until noon today and as usual, I started reading up on my subscribed feeds on my Google Reader, whilst eating the fried rice with egg and banana fritters that my sister-in-law had made for breakfast. A glass of cold Ribena washed down the food and I bet they were happily swimming together in my stomach.

I read Curryegg’s ten “tips on getting ideas instantly for blogging” which she had provided as a guideline when you stumble upon a writer’s block and she had elaborated greatly on her tips.

I find her tip too lengthy and difficult to follow, but I believe Curryegg’s tips can be summed up into one simple, but important tip that many bloggers failed to follow - Live life as per normal.

I may not be the best blogger around, but I would like to share some (general) tips for satisfying and fun blogging:

  1. Blog only when you have to

  2. Do not make blogging an obligation unless you are obligated to (for money-making bloggers)

    and most importantly,

  3. Live life as per normal

I highly discourage sitting in front of the blank screen and trying to write up a great post out of nothing. Instead of using that 10 minutes to think of what to write about, why don’t we do something else that is more productive? (Ie. walking your dog, feeding your fish, checking out that hot chick across the road).

I usually give myself a couple of minutes to think about what to write and if nothing comes up, off I go to do my other stuffs =)

Have a great week.

Lesson Learnt

February 19, 2008 | Filed Under Rough Times | 1 Comment

Knowing that you are going to work early in the morning and going to tire and sweat yourself out, playing badminton until late at night often posed this question to me - will I wake up on time for work tomorrow morning? I proved myself right this morning.

The snooze-button pressing that I had mentioned yesterday unfortunately continued this morning until I pressed the wrong button (the stop button[!]), causing me to oversleep. I woke up at 5.45am when my sister-in-law knocked on my bedroom door. I decided to sleep in, so I left a voicemail at my work agent’s office to inform them about my absence at work.

Lesson Learnt.

I had downloaded “He Was a Quiet Man” overnight after the review by michaelooi, and watching the first half of the movie certainly made me feel like going home right now to finish up the movie. Don’t expect a review though, but do watch it if the opportunity arises.

First Day Back to University

February 18, 2008 | Filed Under Life in Uni | 2 Comments

My mobile phone alarm set off as per normal at 4.45am. The Way I Are by Timbaland was the song that disrupted my ever peaceful sleep as its volume ascended to a point I could not comprehend. Without hesitation, the snooze button was pressed to shut it up for another five minutes. The process went on from 4.45am to 5.20am. That is, seven times of pressing the snooze button and one time of pressing the stop button to shut it up for good.

Dragging my own feet from the cozy, air-conditioned room into the bathroom was not an easy feat, nor was the feeling of the warm water splashing onto my body, especially when I know that it is the first day back to uni and I would have spent the last three months’ worth of holiday doing nothing but working my ass off to pay bills. The only consolation was trying out the new shampoo that I had gotten from Spencer Village’s Chemist for a mere AUD2.45 the day before, which was reduced to clear but was reallly nothing to shout about.

With only thirty minutes left to get to work on time, I could not fully savour the congee with salted fish and omelette that my sister-in-law had prepared nor the extra black coffee that I had made to keep myself awake for the rest of the morning.

Rushing through the traffic in the morning to work is not an uncommon thing. With only less than twenty minutes to prevent facing the music of the supervisors and team leader, driving 90-100km/h on a 70 road on South St. is often the only choice.

At work, doing the mundane work every morning could hardly bring out the best in me. There would be times when I would pretend that I am in my fantasy world, where the job I do would be thought of as something that I really enjoy doing, when in actual fact I detest it with my whole heart. Often, the simplest way to pass time would be to talk to the colleague I work with, like the new guy from Italy today, Martino.

Leaving work at 10am, the rushing starts again, but this time, only to go to campus to attend my first lecture of the semester, Media Audiences and the Public at 10.30am. Although uni is located a mere 5 minutes from work, finding a decent parking space often take a longer time than to get to the place itself. With less than thirty minutes in my hand, all I could do was to grab myself a can of Coke and to have a change of top. The last thing to do would be to attend my first lecture late.

First day of uni always suck and it will continue to suck for the rest of the semester. Now that my large Mocha and Florentine cookie from Cafe Kadjininy are both happily swimming in my stomach, it is high time that I get home and catch up with my readings.

Have a great week.
