I Thought I was Going to Die
January 30, 2008 | Filed Under Rough Times
It was Friday and I had just finished work at 3.30pm. L’s family asked me to go over their place and go crabbing together, so I said okay. I felt dizzy and nauseous throughout the journey and we caught no crabs.
After dinner, I felt too sick to drive home. I vomited my lungs out after taking two Panadeine. The following morning, L told me my left eye was bleeding. I looked at the mirror and noticed that my eye blood vessel had burst. After googling, I figured it must have been the vomit that caused it.
It was Australia Day. I tried to watch the fireworks with L in Perth, but my body couldn’t take it. I had migraine throughout the day. I felt drowsy. I was weak. My body was aching everywhere. And just a couple of hours before the fireworks, we decided to go home to rest. So we did.
The migraine got worse from then on. It didn’t help with the additional fever or the throat inflammation. From Friday to Monday, L was by my side, taking care of the sick me (Thank you..). I tried to keep myself from dying by taking Panadeine/Nurofen every 4 hours, but they only managed to get rid of the migraine.
At some stage (in the morning, esp.), the migraine was so bad I thought I was going to die. I had taken a couple of days off work, and probably tomorrow as well. My brother rushed me to Royal Perth Hospital yesterday afternoon. After consultation, the emergency doctor concluded that I’ve caught a viral upper respiratory tract infection.
I was asked to keep up with my fluids and to take regular paracetamol and to go back if the symptoms deteriorated.
The last time I have showered or brushed my teeth was Sunday, and it is already Wednesday.
I’m feeling better. The migraine is still there, but it’s milder. My body is still weak, but stronger. I’m out of my fever. I’m glad I’m actually well enough to shower and wash up now, but still wish I can get back to work asap.
Oh, how smelly are my bed and pillows.
